There is a large dollop of gentle humor and a gradual build up of suspense: What is going to happen now that Granny is lonely for a kitty? What will she do and will she find a cat who has the right chemistry, and vice versa? The story is told in funny rhymes and the pictures are out of this world gorgeous and as expressive as all get out ( The cats' faces are all so expressive and varied!) So, we ordered the next two books in the series and they were as fun and gorgeous We gave several of these books to a number of preK kids (and older) and the mothers said that the children "adored" them, insisted on looking at all of the pictures in their laps, and require a reread each night for Lord knows how many days By the way, my 65 year old spouse and I got a kick out of reading the books and admire the pictures AND the writing SO much This series, we think, is a winner and so I want to see the fourth book in the series! (Yes, Silas does get a sister, Opal, and you can read about his adjustment to sharing his "mom" with her, very believable and with a happy ending.) What a great next step in the Silas Series Grannie Snow has done it again! Keep them coming! New pets in the house can be difficult for an existing pet to adjust to As I read this book I found myself saying "Come on Silas can't you just get along with Opal?" Author and illustrator have both done great work The fullpage illustrations must take forever to draw, but really make this series stand out Grannie Snow addresses some serious life topics, all while keeping it light and playful Bravo I imagine that the Caldecott Folks will be calling any day, as this series is rewardworthy. Silas and Opal Meet is an enjoyable book about a second cat being adopted into a household It shows the way real cats would act in the same situation It is not always an easy tradition The illustrations are vibrant I think that I would have enjoyed the book evenif I had read the first two books first.I won my copy from Goodreads.
